What a custom page is

A list shows records of one kind. A custom page is something else: a standalone screen that gathers into one view what is meant to be together, even though it comes from different places in the system. A department dashboard, a start panel for new employees, a screen with summaries for the management.

A page has its own address and its own entry in the menu. You open it the same way as a list, but you will not find on it a single record form to fill in.

Contents of a custom page

• Counters, that is, single values: the number of open matters, the value of offers this month, the number of documents to approve.
• Tables with the results of a summary prepared beforehand.
• Tasks from processes, with the option to go to the matter.
• Charts and reports prepared by the administrator.
• Information blocks with an instruction, an announcement, or links.
• Buttons that open another screen or start an action.

Example. The sales department dashboard shows a counter of this week's inquiries, a table of offers awaiting a reply, the signed-in person's task list, and a monthly sales chart. Everything on one screen, without going into four lists.

Source of the data

A page has no data of its own: it shows what is in the system, prepared beforehand as a summary or a report. That is why the numbers on the page and in the list always agree, and a change to a record shows on the dashboard after a refresh.

You see only the data you have access to, and only in the company you are working in. After switching the company, the same page shows different numbers.

Incorrect page contents

The scope and the way of counting are set by the administrator when building the page. A discrepancy between a number on the dashboard and your expectation is usually a difference of definition, for example counting closed matters or those assigned to a department. Report it together with an example, not with the number alone.
