Select fields
Pola wyboru pilnują, żeby wszyscy nazywali tak samo te same rzeczy. Skąd biorą się dostępne wartości i co zrobić, gdy brakuje tej właściwej.
A select field instead of a text field
If the kind of matter were typed by hand, "complaint", "Complaint", "compl.", and "goods return" would arise as four different things. None of these entries can be counted in a report. That is why repeatable values are chosen from the available values.
The effect shows only in the summaries: a filter by status works, a report counts correctly, and there is no doubt whether "in progress" and "under way" are one and the same.
Single and multiple choice
- A select field lets you point to one value. This is how statuses, kinds, and categories work.
- A multiple-select field lets you point to several at once, for example several channels of contact or several labels on a matter.
On the record list, values from a select usually have a color, so you see them at once, without reading the whole column.
Source of the values
The values are set by the administrator and come from one of three places: from values entered directly at the field, from a shared dictionary used in several places in the system, or from live data, for example a list of active contractors. You recognize the last case by the values changing together with the data, without the administrator's involvement.
Example. The Matter owner field shows only employees with active employment, because its source is a query to the employee list, not a fixed list of values entered once when the field was created.
Missing values
If a value you need is not there, do not work around it by entering something approximate or by a remark in a description field. Report it to the administrator. Adding a value to a dictionary is a change of a minute, and the data stays consistent.
It is worth knowing that values are sometimes deliberately limited: some lists are short so that a report makes sense. The answer "we do not add that" is also an answer and usually follows from the decisions made during the implementation.
Order of the values
The values of a select field are usually not sorted by chance: the administrator sets the order so that the most frequent or most important are on top. If the order gets in the way of daily work, that too is a matter to report.
Basic fields
Tekst, liczba, kwota, data, przełącznik, e-mail, telefon, NIP, adres i kolor. Co oznacza każdy rodzaj pola na formularzu i dlaczego system nie przyjmuje niektórych wartości.
Dictionaries
Słownik to wspólna lista dozwolonych wartości, z której korzystają pola wyboru w całym systemie. Dzięki niemu wszyscy nazywają te same rzeczy tak samo.
